Police officers in Clayton, Missouri told reporters that they had to use force to arrest a woman holding a pumpkin with the word "racism" written on it because they "sensed" that she might smash it outside the St. Louis County Justice Center. Over the weekend, a group of mostly-white students and agitators rioted at a pumpkin festival in Keene, New Hampshire.

As a child in New York City schools, I was taught all about the American Revolution. It was pointed out to this child of refugees, that among the wonderful characteristics of living in America, is that people could openly inform the government of their displeasure with its behavior.

The St. Louis County Council has unanimously endorsed a resolution calling for expedited cleanup of Coldwater Creek following a state health study showing high rates of cancers in north St. Louis County near the creek. Mallinckrodt refined uranium for 15 years at a site in downtown St. Louis, and tons of the waste were trucked to sites near the headwaters of the creek.

The attorney for the family of slain Ferguson, Missouri, teenager Michael Brown called again Monday for an indictment of the police officer who fired the fatal shots. Attorney Daryl Parks said information in a Friday New York Times story that related what's said to be Darren Wilson's version of what happened shouldn't preclude Wilson's prosecution for the unarmed teen's Aug. 9 death.

Those documents, prepared by the St. Louis County medical examiner and obtained by the Post-Dispatch, provide the most detailed description to date of the wounds Brown sustained in a confrontation Aug. 9 with Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson.
