An independent commission will be created to study issues that have surfaced since the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said Tuesday. Nixon, who has been criticized by some residents and activists who say he hasn't done enough to address the unrest in the St. Louis suburb, said the Ferguson Commission will examine the social and economic conditions underscored by the weeks of protests following the shooting.

Sometimes it's hundreds of demonstrators, sometimes just a handful. But they're always outside the Ferguson Police Department, clamoring for the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

The official autopsy on Michael Brown shows that he was shot in the hand at close range, according to an analysis of the findings by two experts not involved directly in the case. Those documents, prepared by the St Louis County medical examiner and obtained by The St Louis Post-Dispatch, provide the most detailed description to date of the wounds Brown sustained in a confrontation August 9 with Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Police officers in Clayton, Missouri told reporters that they had to use force to arrest a woman holding a pumpkin with the word "racism" written on it because they "sensed" that she might smash it outside the St. Louis County Justice Center. Over the weekend, a group of mostly-white students and agitators rioted at a pumpkin festival in Keene, New Hampshire.

The attorney for the family of slain Ferguson, Missouri, teenager Michael Brown called again Monday for an indictment of the police officer who fired the fatal shots. Attorney Daryl Parks said information in a Friday New York Times story that related what's said to be Darren Wilson's version of what happened shouldn't preclude Wilson's prosecution for the unarmed teen's Aug. 9 death.
